The year 2016 saw the birth of the LearnAkan Project, a rather broad initiative aimed at promoting the reading, writing and speaking of the Akan language across the globe. The flagship offshoot of this project, LearnAkan.Com, was launched on July 17, 2016 to teach various aspects of the language to learners around the world.

MyTwiDictionary.Com follows suit as the second “baby” of the LearnAkan Project. Launched on March 6, 2018 by Stephen (Yaw) Awiba (founder), MyTwiDictionary.Com is your ultimate online destination for English to Twi; Twi to English translations. The site is ideal for Twi learners of all levels, linguists, and other professionals who use the Twi dialect in their line of work.

It is worth noting that the core function of this website is to translate from English to Twi and not the other way around. The site is, however, capable of displaying relevant entries when you type in a Twi word into the search bar, correctly.

Hi, my name is Stephen (Yaw) Awiba and I am the founder of MyTwiDictionary.Com and LearnAkan.Com. I was born in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital of Ghana, where Akan (Asante Twi) is spoken as the first language.

Beyond acquiring the language from home as a child, I have also had the opportunity of studying it as a school subject at both the basic and high school levels. Again, my love for the workings of the language saw me pursuing a degree in Linguistics at the University of Ghana, taking a number of Akan-related courses. In 2014, I moved to Norway to pursue an MPhil in English Linguistics and Language Acquisition at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, graduating in 2016.
